Today's Movie #2

"Mean Street"(1973)

I rent this video at TSUTAYA. The story is about five men who live in Little Italy, New York. Charlie, who works for his uncle, is a closest friend of Johnny. He is going to take over his uncle's business very soon. One day, uncle asked Charlie to leave away from Johnny because of Johnny's wicked personality. But he denied his uncle’s advice because he believes that Johnny will not survive in this immoral town without Charlie’s supports. Now, Charlie, the girlfriend and Johnny decided to leave from Little Italy and start a new life somewhere. However, all of three were shooting by a man who is Johnny’s enemy.
This is a kind of sad story, I think. But the acting of Harvey Keitel, who played Charlie, was just great. I won’t forget his angrily face when Johnny made the girlfriend faint. Mr. Keitel also was appearing on a fantastic movie called “Taxi Driver” with Robert De Niro. That is worth to watching. If you got time and little money, you should rent them. I believe that you would like it.

Today's Journal !

Today was a perfect day to reading books in outside. After third period, I was sitting on the bench and reading a book which I just borrowed from library. Its title is “Oliver Twist”. I have not finished it yet, but I'm planing to white a book review about it.
About six o’clock, PM, some of my friend and I attend to a extra class which we've taken in this term. It called “Survive EI-KAI-WA(英会話)”. In the class, Mr. Jeffrey Morrow teaches us basic, useful English conversation. His way of talking is pretty funny and always makes us laughter. In last spring vacation, I was taking his TOEFL class also. That class had improved my English skill in many ways. I have never taken the real TOEFL test yet, but I’ll try once so soon.
The photo was taken by me after the class. Say hallo to Jeff !

Sunday English Service

Yesterday, I visited to a church which near SUIDO-CHO(水道町) to join a service. The service was hold for people who speak English. As I came in, there were many people already had gathered all around the room. Some people are Asian, some are White, and some are Black. It was like a Little America. At that time, I felt pretty nervous because it was my very first visiting. When I sat down, the woman who was sitting next to me said hallo to me. I said same to her, and then we had a conversation. She was an English teacher who had live in America long time. When I talked her that this is my first joining, she taught me almost everything about the service. She was so kind.
Few minutes later, the pastor appeared and told us service's beginning. The service was about sixty-minutes. The pastor told us some story about Jesus Christ, and then we sang some hymn. When the service almost ends, a man comes to front of the room, said: "Here's new face today." I know that means me, so I stood up and did a self introduce. Surely I was so nervous while I'm talking, but all of them welcomed me very warmly. After the service, the woman who was sitting next me asked me to go to a dinner with them. But I couldn't agree because of a lack of money. They were very kind people, so I wish that I could go to dinner with them next week.

Book review 1-3

The fall of the house of Usher
Written by Edgar Allan Poe

The story is about a man who thinks he is going to die very soon because of his mad sister. The man's name is Usher. Another man, his old friend, came to Usher's house to help him. One day’s morning, the friend notices that an evil creature making Usher mad and the creature is coming over to the house again very soon. He tried to stand up to it, but in the long time, all families of Usher have died out.
This novel also contains some other stories and all of them are kind of horror. Every story has a bad, hopeless ending. I love horror movies and novels, so I really enjoyed them so much.
Edgar Allan Poe, the author, is a very well-known horror and detective novelist. I had never read his books until these days, but I have heard his name long time ago. He died so young, but he had left many masterpieces to us. Additionally, his real life is also very dramatic. When Edgar was a poor man, he had married to a thirteen years old girl. People belive that Edgar has a bad mental habit, but he was just loves his little, sweet wife. As his wife died by tuberculosis germs, Edgar feels his life is over too. Then two years later, Edgar has dead. Before his death, he send a poet which about his lovely wife to a news paper. According to the poet, when his wife almost dead, she whispered to him just like this:“As I’m dead, I will be an angel to protect you. I will hold your head warmly when you did something wrong. I will be with you for keeps.” It's a impressive story more than novels, isn't it?
